Stormy weather over Shreveport with dark clouds and lightning

News Summary

The Shreveport-Bossier area is preparing for severe storms this weekend, including heavy rain, strong winds, and the possibility of tornadoes. The National Weather Service has issued warnings and advisories, urging residents to stay informed and prepare for potential power outages and flooding. Storms are expected to peak on Saturday afternoon, with conditions improving by the evening. Stay safe and take precautions as the weather unfolds.

Severe Weather Alert: Shreveport-Bossier Area Braces for Stormy Weekend

Hey there, Shreveport! If you thought the weather was calm, think again! We’re in for some serious storms that will kick off overnight and last through Saturday evening. A cold front is rolling in, bringing with it a whole mix of potential chaos including heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and the ominous threat of tornadoes.

When to Expect the Storms

Mark your calendars, folks! The risk for severe weather starts around noon on Saturday and is expected to stay active through the afternoon. That’s right, from about noon until early evening, we need to be extra cautious. Initially, you might notice some light rain beginning as early as tonight and into the overnight hours, but don’t be fooled. The real stormy weather is just around the corner.

Timing It Right

According to forecasts, by 5 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, we should be clear of the worst of it. So, if you can plan your activities accordingly, it might be smart to hunker down at home as the storm rolls in and wait for it to pass.

What to Watch Out For

With this impending weather, there are definitely some risks to keep in mind. Strong winds could lead to power outages, so it’s wise to prep your home just in case. Thankfully, flooding is on the list of concerns, but it seems like we won’t be experiencing the extreme conditions some parts of the area saw earlier this week. Still, safety first!

Stay Safe: Weather Warnings in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) is reminding us that wind and lightning will be the main dangers associated with these storms. If you hear thunder, it’s imperative to stay indoors. If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter in a sturdy building. Remember these key tornado safety tips: get low to the ground, steer clear of windows, and cover your head.

Staying Informed

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about changing conditions, both in Shreveport and nearby areas. Having access to weather updates is essential, especially with the way things can change so quickly in these situations.

Wind and Flood Watches in Place

Heads up: a wind advisory is set to be in effect from 7 AM Monday to 1 AM Tuesday across parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Additionally, a flood watch will be active from 7 AM Monday through Tuesday afternoon, specifically in certain counties in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and our local Bossier and Caddo parishes. So, don’t let your guard down post-Saturday!

Tornado Watches Issued

And here’s more news: tornado watches have been issued for Bossier Parish and surrounding regions due to expected severe thunderstorms. Meteorologists have noted the potential for multiple tornadoes and flash flooding, so prepare your homes and check your emergency kits! Some areas could see anywhere from 5 to 8 inches of rain by Tuesday, so make sure you’re ready.

What Comes After the Storms?

On the bright side, once the stormy weather passes on Monday, we can look forward to clear skies and dry conditions for the rest of the week. Temperatures are expected to hit the low 80s on Monday, and it looks like warm weather will linger through the week. However, brace yourselves—isolated showers might make a comeback next weekend with highs creeping up into the mid to upper 90s!

Recent Tornado Impact

Just a quick note: a recent tornado that passed through Sabine Parish caused significant damage to boat docks and homes. Winds were strong enough to down trees and damage roofs, so it’s a reminder to take these weather warnings seriously and stay safe!

So, gear up, Shreveport! It looks like we have some stormy days ahead. Stay warm, stay safe, and let’s ride this weather wave together!
