Shreveport Unites for the First Citywide Youth Celebration
Shreveport, Louisiana, recently marked a significant milestone in celebrating its vibrant youth. Over the weekend, on September 15, the first-ever citywide African American Celebration Parade took place in downtown Shreveport, and it was an absolute joy to witness!
A Warm Invitation for Youth Talent
As Barbara Norton, the founder of the parade, shared, “The City of Shreveport should show more love. If we show more love to our children, they will do better.” This event was all about embracing our youngsters and giving them a platform to shine. With so many talented kids in Shreveport, the parade was a fantastic opportunity to showcase their abilities. “It is a success,” Norton exclaimed. “We have so many children with talent here in the city of Shreveport, and they need a place to show it.”
The African American Parade Celebration Committee did an incredible job inviting all youths to put their talents on display. And the best part? It was free for everyone to attend! What better way to support the local community than offering a fantastic event where kids can have fun and express themselves?
Fun, Food, and Fabulous Performances
As the festivities kicked off, excitement filled the air, with a promise of delicious pizza to keep everyone’s energy up. “We want to have a good time,” Norton said, and that was exactly what was happening! Not only were there talented youths sharing their passions, but also a special performance by The Chosen Youth Choir, known for their heartwarming melodies that uplift the spirit.
Alongside them, the talented Leadership Institute Band from Baton Rouge graced the event with their incredible performance. This band isn’t just any group; they have played for former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama! Talk about star power on a local stage!
Fostering Growth Through Music
Katrina P., a writer for The Chosen Youth Choir, expressed the beauty of watching these young talents grow. “It’s a challenge, a good challenge,” she said, as she celebrated the progress of the children in her choir. “I get the opportunity to see them grow. We build self-esteem. Some come with no voice, but we are happy today to say we are progressing.”
