In a bittersweet announcement that has touched the hearts of many, Smitty’s Pizza, the iconic pizzeria of Shreveport, is making plans to move to a new location following the sale of its current building. For over four decades, Smitty’s has been a favorite gathering spot for pizza lovers and families alike, but the time has come for some changes.
Owner Shelly Ward recently shared her thoughts regarding this significant transition with the community. She emphasized, “The big thing is we are only closing to relocate. We are not closing down.” This is a relief for countless loyal customers who have made memories at Smitty’s over the years. The current location at 9375 Mansfield Rd. has been a beloved landmark, and while the future is uncertain, it’s reassuring to know that Smitty’s will continue to serve up their delicious pies.
As it stands, Smitty’s will remain open until 30 days after the sale of the building is finalized, which, as of now, has not yet been determined. Once the dust settles, the team at Smitty’s plans to move to a new spot that promises to be closer to the heart of Shreveport. “We kind of knew this would happen one day, because we didn’t own the building; we were just leasing,” Ward reflected. “It just happened a little faster than we were hoping.”
Many patrons are curious about what the future holds for Shreveport’s much-loved pizzeria. Rest assured, Smitty’s will be bringing along their signature brick ovens when they move to the new location. As Ward triumphantly stated, “That is Smitty’s Pizza.” Fans of their crispy crust and classic selection can look forward to enjoying the same flavors they’ve come to know and love.
Smitty’s Pizza isn’t just about delicious food; it’s about community and memories. Ward shared that once the sale is completed, the pizzeria plans to host a celebration to honor its long history at the Mansfield location. “We would like to have as many people that can come and visit and take pictures,” she mentioned. This will be a chance for longtime customers to reminisce and for newer patrons to soak in the rich history of Smitty’s.
Ward also revealed plans to create picture collage walls in the new location. This area will be dedicated to sharing memories and snapshots from customers, family, and friends, as they build their new community hub together. “We’re going to ask our customers and family and friends to submit pictures that they would like to be a part of, and it’s just going to be history,” said Ward. What a wonderful way to pay homage to the unforgettable memories that have taken place over the years!
If you want to stay updated on the relocation process and all the exciting things happening at Smitty’s Pizza, be sure to follow them on social media. They are committed to keeping the community informed as they navigate this transition.
Although change can be challenging, Smitty’s remains a steadfast part of Shreveport’s culinary landscape. With plans in motion for relocation and a few surprises along the way, there’s no doubt that Smitty’s Pizza will continue to serve up joy and delicious slices for many years to come!
