"Visitors exploring stunning gardens"
The Northwest Louisiana Master Gardeners’ annual spring garden tour, Le Tour des Jardins, is set to wow visitors with a glimpse into six stunning gardens this year. The tour offers a unique opportunity to draw inspiration from the creativity and beauty displayed by local gardeners.
One of the featured homes on the tour is owned by Pam Tully, who expressed her excitement, stating that being part of the tour has been a long-time dream of hers. Her garden is a delightful blend of flowers and vegetables, with informative cards strategically placed to educate visitors on different plant varieties. Tully shared, “I love teaching and I love gardening, so sharing my knowledge about gardening is truly fulfilling.”
The self-guided tour allows visitors to explore the gardens in any order they prefer. Proceeds from the garden tour contribute to funding future Master Gardener projects and supporting their mission to enhance gardening knowledge within the community.
The Garden Bazaar, held during the tour at the Red River Research Station in South Bossier, will feature food trucks and vendors. Visitors can also explore the Louisiana Super Plants gardens, a project initiated by the Northwest Louisiana Master Gardeners. Mark Wilson, the Northwest Louisiana Horticulture Extension agent, will be present to discuss Louisiana Super Plants and address any gardening queries from visitors. Tickets for the tour can be purchased at this location using credit/debit cards.
Here is a list of the six gardens that will be showcased during the 2024 Master Gardeners Le Tour des Jardins:
Located in Bossier, this garden boasts unique features such as a dry creek bed, a Koi pond, planters, and a gazebo. Vitex trees and clematis contribute to the garden’s charm, while ground cover and ivy add texture and visual interest.
Also situated in Bossier, this garden features a variety of sun and shade plants, including a rare white Lantana. Visitors can relax by the pool or unwind in a wicker swing beneath a towering Crepe Myrtle.
Nestled in the Anderson Island neighborhood of Shreveport, this garden showcases a creative mix of flowers and vegetables, including tomato plants, blueberry bushes, peppers, and green beans.
Located in the heart of South Highlands, this garden utilizes its backyard space efficiently with flower beds, captivating artwork, and a beautiful water feature. The garden provides multiple relaxation spots and an ideal space for hosting gatherings with friends.
This charming garden in South Highlands features Limelight hydrangeas, vibrant front beds, and a stone pathway that leads to a stunning backyard with a pool, gazebo, and colorful pots.
Situated in Southwest Shreveport, this garden is a floral paradise with over 120 flower varieties, including hydrangeas, iris, and daylilies. Each plant is meticulously labeled, offering visitors plenty of ideas to replicate in their own gardens.
The garden tour will take place on June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on June 2 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Advance tickets are priced at $10 and can be purchased at any Citizens National Bank, by calling the Master Gardener office at (318) 408-0984, or online at www.nwlamg.weebly.com.
