Four noteworthy nonprofits in Shreveport, Louisiana, have recently been awarded Neighborhood Grants from the renowned Starbucks Foundation. The organizations recognized included Providence House, Renesting Project Inc., Shreveport Green, and the Philadelphia Center.

Providence House – Supporting Homeless Families in the Community

The Providence House has been helping homeless families break the cycle of homelessness. Not only does it provide accommodations for up to 27 families at a time, but it also assists these families in securing their independent housing. The organization also offers a range of beneficial support services, such as workforce development courses that aim to improve job skills. The Neighborhood Grant from the Starbucks Foundation will support the projects of the Providence House with a $1,000 postal grant.

Renesting Project Inc. – Helping the Needy with Home Essentials

The Renesting Project Inc. is a non-profit organization settled in Bossier that serves the local community members with their needs for home essentials. It seamlessly collects used furniture to renest or distribute to the community members in need of such items, collaborating closely with local agencies and churches.

Shreveport Green – Instilling Environmental Consciousness among Citizens

The Shreveport Green cultivates a spirit of environmental consciousness among citizens, emphasizing the importance of being ‘green.’ This nonprofit initiative operates to keep the city clean, encouraging the city’s residents to recycle their waste effectively, care for community gardens, and discard hazardous waste properly.

The Philadelphia Center, Shreveport- Empowering the HIV Positive and Preventing HIV Transmission

The Philadelphia Center, also based in Shreveport, is a pivotal HIV resource center dedicated to empowering those living with HIV while striving to prevent HIV transmission. Its amenities include offering various medical resources to those diagnosed with the virus and even includes a 24-hour housing program for homeless individuals living with HIV.

These deserving nonprofits were nominated for the grants by the local Starbucks employees, representing a strong connection between the employees of a multinational corporation and their local communities. This year, over 33,000 organizations received nominations, and these local nonprofits were among the 2,800 organizations across the country selected for a grant.
