Exciting Weekend Ahead at the State of Black Shreveport Symposium!

This weekend, the vibrant city of Shreveport, Louisiana, is all set to host a significant event: the State of Black Shreveport Symposium and Economic Summit. Scheduled for February 15, 2025, at the stunning Bally’s Casino Hotel, this annual shindig is expected to bring together members of the local Black community to engage in fruitful discussions about community progress and economic development.

What to Expect at the Symposium?

The symposium features a lineup of respected figures from the local Black community, showcasing a variety of perspectives on pertinent topics. Attendees can look forward to presentations and panel discussions that revolve around critical themes like entrepreneurship, community involvement, and—most importantly—education. This dynamic event not only serves as a platform for celebrating successes from the past year but also provides an opportunity to pinpoint future needs. An essential part of the day’s discussions will focus on how the community can continue to uplift itself in the coming years.

Honest Assessments for Continued Growth

A key figure this weekend, Pastor Theron Jackson, will emphasize the need for honest assessments to inform the community’s development plans. Participants will be diving deep into data and trends, unveiling both progress made and challenges yet to tackle. Multiple panel discussions will address questions such as how the community can further enhance its entrepreneurial landscape or increase civic engagement initiatives.

Generational Voices Unite!

In a special twist, the symposium will host a Generational Town Hall Meeting, welcoming a diverse group of voices across the generations. Attendees can expect insightful discussions featuring representatives from the Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z. Each of these groups brings a unique perspective that could tremendously spark innovative solutions regarding economic development, health disparities, civic engagement, and housing ownership.

Recognizing Local Heroes

The heart of the weekend will be the 12th annual awards luncheon, where four community leaders, three local businesses, and five Shreveport sports icons will be honored for their contributions. A special accolade will also go to the famed former Shreveport Steamers football organization, celebrating its legacy within the community.

Support Local Business with a ‘Cash Mob Event’

To further emphasize the importance of community support, a ‘Cash Mob Event’ is planned at Hoodbachi Taco on February 13. This initiative aims to promote local small businesses, encouraging community members to come out, show support, and enjoy some delicious food!

Concluding with a Sunday Service

The enriching events will wrap up with a heartfelt worship service at the Historical Galilee Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday morning, February 16, at 10:15 a.m. It will be a day for reflection and unity to conclude the vibrant discussions held over the weekend.
