Bossier City Council to Vote on Allowing Sunday Alcohol Sales

BOSSIER CITY, La. – The Bossier City Council is looking for any way to keep tax dollars in the city while also helping with their debt. That’s why they are set to vote on an ordinance that will allow for alcohol to be sold on Sunday. Councilman Brian Hammons introduced the ordinance. Tax dollars fuel the economy, and he wants to make sure no tax dollars are wasted.

“This ordinance is strictly a financial ordinance. There are so many tax dollars out there that we are not collecting, and all of us sitting up here know it takes tax dollars in order to keep the city running, keep expanding, and give the citizens of Bossier the outstanding police, fire protection, and everything else that we offer here in Bossier City,” said Hammons, Bossier City Council District 1.

Keeping Tax Dollars in Bossier City

Hammons said it is a way to keep tax dollars in Bossier City instead of going elsewhere. “We are leveling the playing field that we have so many tax dollars that have been brought to our attention that are going over the bridge and being spent in other municipalities where we can be collecting those tax dollars right here in Bossier City,” Hammons said.

The ordinance would only allow businesses like liquor and grocery stores to sell alcohol on Sunday. It would not allow bars to open on Sunday. “It’s not that we recommend people going out and buying more alcohol or anything like that. It’s all a part of a fiscal responsibility that we have here to try to make as many tax dollars as we can to keep the city running,” said Hammons.

Voting on the Matter

The Bossier City Council will vote on the matter on Tuesday.
