Community Engagement and Sunshine

Sunny Days and New Beginnings in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. – The sun is shining brightly in Shreveport today with a high of 92°F and light winds blowing from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. As the warm weather sets a cheerful tone, there’s also some exciting news lighting up the community—Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn has officially completed his first 100 days in office!

Building Relationships and Making Promises

In a recent chat, Sheriff Whitehorn recounted his whirlwind of activities since stepping into his role. One of his main priorities has been to strengthen ties with local law enforcement across Caddo Parish. He enthusiastically mentioned, “I’ve met with every police chief in Caddo Parish. I’ve met with the constables in the parish. I’ve met with all the federal law enforcement agencies.” Talk about hitting the ground running!

Whitehorn’s commitment to the community can be seen through his focus on youth programs and ensuring there’s a School Resource Officer (SRO) at every high school in the parish. “We need to have environments where our children feel safe and they can learn,” he explained. “That’s part of the plan to make sure that our kids stay out of trouble.” This initiative is all about providing children the support they need to navigate through their educational journeys while making good life choices.

Reentry Programs and Work Release Facilities

Another significant aspect of Sheriff Whitehorn’s vision is the focus on offenders reintegrating into society. He highlighted the importance of programs that assist former inmates in finding meaningful employment. “Making sure that once a person leaves our custody, they have skills, so they can move forward and not have to go back into a life of crime,” he stated passionately. Sheriff Whitehorn is also pleased to announce the reopening of the work release facility, with ten inmates approved to start on this path to rehabilitation. “We hope that that program kicks off on Nov. 1,” he added optimistically.

Looking Toward the Future

As he celebrates this milestone, Sheriff Whitehorn is not one to rest on his laurels. He knows there’s still a lot of work ahead and reminds us that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” He’s optimistic about the future and aims to focus on employee welfare and recruitment efforts. “I want to look at pay increases,” he mentioned, showing his dedication to building a strong team that serves the community.

Join the Team!

Speaking of team building, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is on the lookout for new members to join their ranks! They have a recruitment event lined up this Saturday at Safety Town from 1 to 4 p.m. This could be a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to make a positive impact in the community while carving out a fulfilling career in law enforcement.
