Tragedy Strikes Shreveport: Teen Shot in Mooretown

SHREVEPORT, La. – In a shocking turn of events early Monday morning, the quiet streets of Shreveport’s Mooretown neighborhood were shattered by gunfire, leading to the tragic death of one young man. The shooting, which took place just before the clock struck 2 a.m., has left the community reeling and is now the subject of an urgent police investigation.

The Incident

The unsettling events unfolded in the 5600 block of Jewella Avenue, right near Hollywood Avenue. Witnesses reported that as a champagne-colored Yukon from the early 2000s rolled past two teenagers, a passenger in the vehicle opened fire. Eyewitness accounts shared that the attack escalated quickly—one teen was struck in the head before the vehicle sped off, heading north on Jewella Avenue.

Immediately after the shooting, emergency medical teams rushed the victim to Ochsner LSU Health, where unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. This heinous act marks the 43rd homicide this year in Shreveport, and it’s a stark reminder of the issues confronting the community.

Seeking Justice

The authorities are now on the hunt for the suspects involved in this devastating incident. The vehicle used in the crime was fortunately detected on one of the city’s Real Time Crime Center cameras. However, the investigation hit a snag as the license plate was not visible. This lack of clear identifiers makes tracking down the culprits a lot more challenging.

If you have any information that could aid the investigation or lead to justice for the victim, you’re encouraged to reach out. You can call Caddo-Shreveport Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373. No tip is too small, and every bit of information can help the police piece together what happened that fateful night.

Community Shocked

The Mooretown neighborhood has always been known for its tight-knit feel and community spirit. Residents are now left to grapple with the fear and sorrow that such a violent act can bring. Local leaders and residents are calling for unity and support to ensure that this doesn’t become the norm in their beloved community.

As Shreveport works through this unsettling situation, the focus remains on supporting the family of the victim during this difficult time. Community leaders are stepping up, offering condolences and assistance to help the family cope with their loss. It’s genuinely heartwarming to see people come together in the face of adversity.

A Word to Remember

In times like these, it’s essential for the community to stay vigilant and support one another. Violence has no place in our neighborhoods, and it’s vital for everyone to advocate for safety and peace while seeking to foster a more connected and supportive environment.

As the day unfolds and more details may emerge, everyone’s thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this heartbreak. Life can change in an instant, and it’s crucial to cherish every moment with loved ones.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story, and remember that every small action can play a part in creating a safer community.
