In Shreveport, Louisiana, a recent crackdown on violent crime has resulted in significant outcomes, with law enforcement announcing the apprehension of 61 individuals and the seizure of 17 firearms. This initiative was detailed at a news conference led by a Special Agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Collaborative Efforts Yield Results

Special Agent in Charge Lyonel Myrthil explained the collaborative nature of this operation, stating, “We worked in partnership with federal, state, and local agencies to take the most violent individuals off our streets.”

This operation unfolded over a span of seven days in May and June, involving multiple agencies such as:

  • The FBI New Orleans
  • United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana
  • Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)
  • United States Marshals Service
  • Louisiana Division of Probation and Parole
  • Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office
  • Bossier City Police Department
  • Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office
  • DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office
  • Shreveport Police Department

Community Impact

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith emphasized the unity against crime, stating, “Crime has no boundaries,” stressing that collective efforts allow for a stronger defense against violent activities in neighborhoods.

Underlying Programs and Goals

This endeavor was part of the Violent Gun Reduction Interdiction Program, supported by the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces. The program aims to investigate and prosecute serious drug trafficking and organized crime.

Looking Ahead

U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown highlighted the significance of partnerships in combatting crime, mentioning the accomplishment in relation to reducing violent offenders. “We look forward to continuing these partnerships to ensure community safety,” he stated, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement agencies to improve living conditions.

History of the Initiative

The OCDETF has been involved in addressing serious crimes since July 2021, leading to the arrest of over 200 violent offenders. Myrthil encapsulated the ongoing mission, saying, “Every single action taken by our partners contributes to dismantling violent enterprises and reclaiming our communities.”
