The university has officially announced the appointment of Warren Ward as the new chief executive officer of the Louisiana Tech Applied Research Corporation (LTARC) and executive director of the Louisiana Tech Research Institute (LTRI). This significant move comes as part of the university’s ongoing effort to enhance its focus on defense and national security, linking the university with vital federal, state, and private sector partnerships.
As the CEO of LTARC, Ward will be busy building strategic partnerships to bolster the university’s mission. This includes a keen focus on defense and national security, which are critical areas of research in today’s world. One of the major responsibilities in his new role is to oversee classified research and training at LTRI’s National Cyber Research Park facility. The goal? To enhance the university’s achievements in research while addressing the pressing national security challenges faced by the nation.
Louisiana Tech’s President, Jim Henderson, expressed confidence in Ward’s capabilities, stating, “Warren is the ideal leader to assume these responsibilities at LTARC and LTRI.” With over 30 years of distinguished military and civilian leadership experience, Ward is well-equipped to tackle the university’s ambitious research goals.
Ward’s deep connection to Louisiana Tech began back in 1985 when he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. This is where it all started for him, and he proudly noted, “I am honored to serve Louisiana Tech, the institution which launched my professional career.” His background certainly proves his dedication to education, as he aims to provide countless research opportunities for students.
With a strong vision and commitment, Ward plans to forge relationships with key defense agencies like the Air Force Global Strike Command. He stated, “I am committed to building relationships with…other U.S. defense agencies and industry partners to ensure the continued sovereignty of our nation.” This speaks volumes about his dedication to not only national security but also to nurturing a knowledge-based workforce in the region.
Ward’s resume boasts a wealth of experience. Before this appointment, he served as LTRI’s chief of staff and operations director, enhancing Louisiana Tech’s ties within defense circles. His military experience includes roles as a B-52 and T-38 pilot, as well as leadership positions at the Headquarters Eighth Air Force and the Air Force Global Strike Command. Ward also completed the prestigious USAF National Laboratory Technical Fellowship Program at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, further adding credentials to his already impressive background.
Throughout his illustrious career, Ward has received numerous awards and recognitions. He was inducted into the Arkansas Military Veteran’s Hall of Fame and shared the General Omar Bradley Spirit of Independence Award for his role during Operation Desert Storm. In addition, he is recognized as a prolific public speaker and writer, sharing insights on military history, leadership, and patriotism.
LTARC Board Chairman, Bobby Cockrell, expressed his excitement about Ward’s new role, saying, “Warren brings an incredible amount of energy and expertise to our organization.” The board emphasized their commitment to solving critical issues for the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies. Under Ward’s leadership, they hope to advance their contributions in research and professional development at both classified and unclassified levels.
In conclusion, all eyes are on Warren Ward as he embarks on this new journey. With a blend of experience, dedication, and a commitment to fostering education and security, he is sure to lead Louisiana Tech University into a promising future.
