Residents of Willow Point Seek Help to Prevent Sewage Flooding

In the lovely community of Shreveport, Louisiana, neighbors living near picturesque Cross Lake are raising the alarm about a troubling issue that has led to sewage flooding in their homes. The Willow Point residents, who take pride in their neighborhood, have found themselves feeling overwhelmed and concerned as they witness unfortunate events unfold over the past year.

A Rising Concern

Four homes in the area have been adversely affected by sewage problems in just the last year. The situation escalated recently when some residents voiced their suspicion that a construction company might be responsible for the issue. They allege that concrete was improperly discarded into a sewage drain, creating a blockage in the system that affects the homes at lower elevations.

“If we could find out where the concrete came from, then we would know who did it,” expressed Brandon Price, the president of the Homeowners Association (HOA). His words reflect not only concern for the current situation but also a desire for accountability.

Personal Experiences

William Barfield, a resident of Willow Point, shared his OWN harrowing experience. “We noticed our commodes would not flush on Monday. After trying to clear them out, my wife called the city. They were very nice and asked if we could take the cover off our cleanout cap,” he recounted. Upon inspection, the cleanout cap was filled to the brim with sewage, leaving Barfield feeling anxious about the outcome had they not been present at the time. “It makes me concerned about what would have happened if we weren’t here,” he reflected.

Efforts from the City

To combat the problem, the city has installed pumps near affected homes to siphon the sewage out of the system. However, the situation took another turn when one of these pumps malfunctioned Monday due to a faulty starter motor. Fortunately, Barfield noted, “The city has been very helpful in responding. After we called them, they were out here within 30 minutes to fix the pump.” Their response time has given residents some hope in an otherwise distressing situation.

Commitment to Collaboration

In an effort to ease the worries of Willow Point residents, the city sent Environmental Services Manager Wes Wyche to a recent HOA meeting. During his visit, he assured residents that he would communicate with city officials to address the ongoing sewage dilemma. Although there’s no specified timeline for resolution, residents were reassured of the city’s commitment to work alongside the HOA to ensure that sewage lines in Willow Point receive proper maintenance.

Looking Toward a Solution

As they navigate these challenges, the community remains hopeful that cooperation between city officials and the homeowners association will eventually bring a long-term solution to the sewage flooding issue. The residents value their neighborhood’s beauty near the lake and are determined to see it restored to its former glory.

As the Willow Point community comes together to tackle this problem, their shared friendships and commitment to persistence shine through, reminding everyone that even during difficult times, support and collaboration can pave the way for positive change.
