Lakeside is a residential community. In the 1920s and 1930s, many of the dwellings in the region were shotgun-style with no indoor plumbing and weekly rents ranging from $1.25 to $2.50. From the end of the American Civil War (1861-1865) to the 1920s, the homes were erected on rugged soil surrounded by unpaved streets and sidewalks.

Mack McCarter of Shreveport/Bossier Community Renewal (SBCR) began developing relationships with other Shreveport residents in 1992 in order to solve the city’s racial tensions and socioeconomic concerns. Shreveport-Bossier Community Renewal teamed with the Fuller Center for Housing in 2001 to begin construction of low-income homes in the intention of rejuvenating the neighborhood. This wonderful work has persisted and endured for more than two decades, with new construction set to begin in 2022. Booker T. Washington High School, West Shreveport Elementary School, and J.S. Cedar Grove is a neighborhood located in Shreveport, Louisiana.
