Lakeside

Lakeside is a residential community. In the 1920s and 1930s, many of the dwellings in the region were shotgun-style with no indoor plumbing and weekly rents ranging from $1.25 to $2.50. From the end of the American Civil War (1861-1865) to the 1920s, the homes were erected on rugged soil surrounded by unpaved streets and sidewalks.

Mack McCarter of Shreveport/Bossier Community Renewal (SBCR) began developing relationships with other Shreveport residents in 1992 in order to solve the city’s racial tensions and socioeconomic concerns. Shreveport-Bossier Community Renewal teamed with the Fuller Center for Housing in 2001 to begin construction of low-income homes in the intention of rejuvenating the neighborhood. This wonderful work has persisted and endured for more than two decades, with new construction set to begin in 2022. Booker T. Washington High School, West Shreveport Elementary School, and J.S. Clark Middle School is among the schools in this area.

Cedar Grove is a neighborhood located in Shreveport, Louisiana. It is located southwest of the downtown district, bounded on the north by Hollywood Avenue and on the south by 85th Street, and on the east by Line Avenue and on the west by Linwood Road. It has a recent reputation as a hazardous inner-city neighborhood, particularly during the 1980s crack cocaine epidemic.

Cedar Grove has a considerably older history, dating back to the 1930s, when it was home to working-class gin establishments, brothels, and illegal gambling. The Woodlawn Club, for example, was infamous for such events and is said to have entertained big band legends like Tommy Dorsey and Rudy Vallée during its heyday. Hurricane Chris shot a music video for his song “A Bay Bay” there in May 2007. Lava House Records, which houses many of Shreveport’s musical performers, is also located in Cedar Grove.

Mooretown

Mooretown, often known as Motown by many of its residents, is a neighborhood in Shreveport, Louisiana, in the United States. It’s about a 5-mile drive west of downtown. Mooretown was once an autonomous town established in the early 1900s by a group of African-Americans led by Giles D. Moore. They established an entirely African-American hamlet outside of Shreveport.

Shreveport Aquarium

Broadmoor
